What makes Naku "real" food?

There are 2 things that make Naku different from the rest of the products on the market.  Firstly, it's dehydrated. It's not kibble nor tinned wet food.  It's a mix of meat, fruits, vegetables, potato, rice etc that has been dehydrated.  It is rehydrated 5-10 minutes before serving.  This is a new concept to most people - we make it in human-food factories.  Naku passes the same quality controls as human food and only uses ingredients fit for human consumption.  These factors make Naku unique in Europe and in the world.

Why do I need to give my pet food that's fit for human consumption?

The majority of dry food, and pet food in general, is manufactured with ingredients that are not fit for humans to eat. They are actually made with the leftovers from the human food production process: bones, intestines, feathers and skin - all with very little quality control during the manufacturing process. On the other hand, human-grade ingredients are processed with high quality standards, in both their selection and elaboration. Why wouldn't we want those same standards for our pets?

How is Naku dehydrated food prepared?

Accepted Answer

It will take 5 minutes.  Take the indicated portion for your dog or cat, mix with the same quantity of water, mix well and leave to rest for 5 minutes.

Do I have to mix it with water?

Accepted Answer

Yes.  That's how the ingredients recuperate their smell, colour, texture and moisture.  You mix it with hot water (from the tap is hot enough) and leave for 5-10 minutes for the water to absorb.  If you do happen to use very hot water, make sure to test the temperature with you finger before serving.

Can I mix Naku with leftovers from the table?

Giving your dog or cat leftovers doesn't mean using him or her as a dustbin - you still have to have some control of what and how much you are giving them.  We can take advantage of much of our homecooked food if we change a few habits - like adding salt and spices on our own plate rather than in pan. I've always been told not to give our dog anything other their kibble? Won't they get fat if I give them homecooked food or Naku?

Accepted Answer

There are no kibble brands that can afford to use ingredients of the quality of those that you have in the fridge.  From there, it depends on the quantity and type of food you use.  You can calculate the portion size of Naku from the tables on the box of the product or on the website.  Naku has less fat than typical kibbles, but since you have to rehydrate it before serving it, the sensation of fullness is much greater.  Take into account that 100g of dry Naku converts into 400g of fresh food.

Question 7

Can I just change my pets food from one day to the next?

Accepted Answer

Yes.  You can make the change slowly if you have a dog or cat that is particularly sensitive to changes, but it's not strictly necessary.  Naturally dehydrated food is so natural and healthy that your pet's organism will have no trouble making the switch.

What consequences might changing their food have?

Accepted Answer

Many, and all positive.  Among the changes you might notice: improvements in skin problems, better coat, less bodily odour, better breath, less flatulence, less quantity of excrement (because their body will absorb more nutrients and expel less waste), less water consumed (because they will get it through their food and their body will be better hydrated).

Will my pet like Naku?

Most dogs and cats like Naku, but you can never be sure about these things.  If your pet is very picky, just buy a single small bag of each variety to try.

If it's so good, can I eat it myself?

Accepted Answer

Although all the ingredients are apt for human consumption, Naku is formulated and created for dogs and cats.  We try it occasionally whilst formulating recipes and as part of quality control, but don't forget its a food created for pets, not their owners!

Is Naku expensive compared to my current brand?

Accepted Answer

It depends on which brand you are using at the moment.  What we can guaranteed you is that Naku has no intermediaries other than the UK distributor (The Tapas Lunch Company Ltd).  The real question is - what should we consider as expensive: a product that costs £60 but £10 to make, or a product that costs £80 but £50 to make.

So why is my current food so expensive then?

Pet food manufacturers use non-human-grade food for a very specific reason: they are much cheaper.  Most of brands have a long chain of intermediaries to "pay" so the product gets more and more expensive at every step, resulting in a product that costs many times its original fabrication cost.

How long will a box of Naku last?

Accepted Answer

That will depend on the size and level of physical activity of your pet.  An average 25 Kg dog would need to eat about 250 grams per day, which means that 5 Kg would last around 20 days.  That's if you don't add in anything else.

From what age can I give Naku food to my pet? Is there special Naku food for puppies or is it the same?

These are the Naku varieties for your puppy: Omega, Vida and Valley. The combination of these recipes, based on foods such as chicken, salmon and Iberian pork, will provide all the variety of nutrients you need for your pet to grow healthy.
